what are some economic factors that may cause increased immigration (or emigration)?
Q. I am working on an economics project for my major and I decided to look at how economic factors can cause immigration (and emigration) in the United States. The factors I have decided to use so far as my independent variables are GDP and unemployment rate. What are some other economic factors you guys think would cause people to come to/leave the country? Thanks in advance!

What's the difference among migration, immigration and emigration?
Q. Can you use each of them in different sentences for me, please?
Asked by Ky - Mon Apr 5 00:46:52 2010 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Migration is moving from one country, place, region to another; The birds migrate southward in the winter. Immigration is to come to a new country of which one is not from; We immigrated here from America Emigration is to leave one country or region for another; We are emigrating from England to Canada (I hope using different contexts for the words doesn't matter)

Immigration and emigration patterns in the Uk ?
Q. Is it true that a lot of other countries citizens are moving into the UK presently ? What are some of the patterns like?
Asked by Castle - Sat Jun 6 18:30:55 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I wouldn't say immigration has intensified in the UK recently in fact if any thing presently there's a lot of government campaigns to cut back on inmigration into the country and the whole "creating 'british jobs for british people'" that they're trying to push right now with the credit crunch BUT i'd say there's been a influx of polish workers due to problems with their economy and links with the EU and then to a lesser extent theres been a smaller influx of romanians. But generally immigration into Britain has been from South Asia which is the biggest migrant group mainly from the 60's onwards - Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Sri lanka, etc. and at the same time there was an influx of people from the Caribbean particularly Jamaica as well… [cont.]

A. Emigration is the act and the phenomenon of leaving one's native country to settle in another country. It is the same as immigration but from the perspective of the country of origin. Immigration is the movement of people from one nation-state to another. While human migration has existed throughout human history, immigration implies long-term permanent residence (and often eventual citizenship) by the immigrants: tourists and short-term visitors are not considered immigrants.

Why might emigration and immigration result in variation within a population?
Q. Why might emigration and immigration result in variation within a population?
Asked by rob3rticusk - Mon Jul 30 19:47:35 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Immigration could cause variation in a population by new genetic variations being introduced into the population. As the new individuals mate with the existing ones, new genetic combinations are created resulting in new variations. Emigration could cause the same result but in the opposite direction. Individuals with certain genetic characteristics could be leaving the population and would no longer contribute to the new genetic combinations. So basically, it's possible for some variations to be lost as individuals leave.

A. Migration is a massive movement of a population as in birds migrating south for the winter. Immigration is the term given to people who have come to a country from another. If you leave Ireland to go to the U.S.A. you are considered an immigrant in the U.S. However, emigration is the opposite. The same Irish person who moved from Ireland to the U.S. is considered an emigrant in Ireland, the country they left.

A. You should know your Latin-based prefixes by now! In- (im-) = IN ex- (e-) = OUT So you emigrate from the country of original citizenship which you leave behind and immigrate to the country you wish to become a citizen of & have been approved for immigration. If you are just moving around without intention of and approval for legal residency and prospective citizenship, you are not an immigrant but only a migrant (someone on the move), in the same sense as "migrant" is used with "migrant worker," etc.
