A. I wouldn't say immigration has intensified in the UK recently in fact if any thing presently there's a lot of government campaigns to cut back on inmigration into the country and the whole "creating 'british jobs for british people'" that they're trying to push right now with the credit crunch BUT i'd say there's been a influx of polish workers due to problems with their economy and links with the EU and then to a lesser extent theres been a smaller influx of romanians. But generally immigration into Britain has been from South Asia which is the biggest migrant group mainly from the 60's onwards - Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Sri lanka, etc. and at the same time there was an influx of people from the Caribbean particularly Jamaica as well… [cont.]

Asked by Asfa A - Thu Sep 24 13:37:28 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You should know your Latin-based prefixes by now! In- (im-) = IN ex- (e-) = OUT So you emigrate from the country of original citizenship which you leave behind and immigrate to the country you wish to become a citizen of & have been approved for immigration. If you are just moving around without intention of and approval for legal residency and prospective citizenship, you are not an immigrant but only a migrant (someone on the move), in the same sense as "migrant" is used with "migrant worker," etc.

Q. I have heard this phrase used in terms of immigration and emigration What does this term mean
Asked by Juliet Romeo: Together 4ever - Sat Oct 3 07:40:13 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's a sort of semi emigration. A typical example would be a couple who have a second home in another country and spend half their time living in each country e.g. The UK and Spain. Another example would be someone who lives in one country and commutes to work in another e.g. England and France.

A. I'll agree to a point - that immigrants that came to this country LEGALLY deserve dignity, respect, and amnesty. Those that did not need to be deported as criminals and come back the right way -period. Why do you think they are leaving Mexico? Lack of jobs? High population causing a bad quality of life? They're coming here to "escape" that in droves. But, I hardly see it as escaping. The more who come here the more it will turn into exactly what they're running from. They'll drag this country down until it's exactly like Mexico.

Q. what is the difference between migration, emigration and immigration?
Asked by Jaimin D - Wed Jun 28 06:32:22 2006 - - 4 Answers - 2 Comments
A. Emigration and immigration are both forms of migration. If you move out of a country, you have emigrated, and you are an emigrant. If you move into a country, you have immigrated, and you are now an immigrant. Either way, or even if you move within the same country, you have migrated, and you are a migrant. So if I migrated from the US to China, I will have emigrated from the US to become an immigrant in China. Just remember that the "e-" prefix means out and the "im-" prefix means in.
