A port is a facility for receiving ships and/or transferring cargo. It is usually found at the edge of an ocean, sea, river, or lake. The best ports have deep water in channels or berths, and protection from the wind and waves. Harbour pilots and tugboats are often used to maneuver large ships in tight quarters as they approach and leave the docks. Ports which handle international traffic also have customs facilities.

How to close the ports on my wireless router?
Q. How to close the ports on my wireless router so that I can prevent illegally downloading torrents. The router is Netgear Wireless G-Router WGR614V9.
Asked by rorschach - Sun Nov 15 21:15:30 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Don't know exactly for this router but have a check in the manual for Firewall settings. The Firewall can be set to different levels which blocks different ports. If you don't have the manual, you can download it from the Netgear website.

Can you bring food or beverages from the ports back on to the cruise ship?
Q. I will be going on my first cruise ship and we'll be stopping at Mexico ports. When we stop at the ports, can I brink touristy gifts like candy or wine back on to the ship that I purchased while in Mexico? Do they search our bags when going back on to the ship?
Asked by Bats - Mon Sep 7 14:42:28 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When your cruise tickets arrive, there will be a booklet included with all the policies explained in detail. They don't hand search your bags when you board, they Xray them and you walk through a metal detector. You can purchase alcohol in port, but the cruise line will keep it for you till the end of the cruise. It will be delivered to your stateroom the night before debarkation. If you want to be a sneak, fill your water bottle with vodka and simply carry it back on board with you. As far as food items, the only restrictions are with raw meat and fruits and vegetables. Many islands and ports don't allow fresh fruits to be brought in due to possible fruit flies and the like. You can't bring fresh fruits or vegetables back into the USA… [cont.]

Would Port Forwarding do the trick if Adding ports to my local firewall settings doesnt work?
Q. I am trying to open ports to a program and a video game. I read some walkthroughs where I added some ports to the Firewall settings through the contral panel... Still nothing worked :(.. I have a 2wire router which I am thinking port forwarding should do the trick right? Since its in more depth of the firewall settings
Asked by bakerboard2007 - Sat Dec 27 21:21:42 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The 2wire firewall/router is an NAT firewall. So there is two ways you can get what you need. You can have all the ports open to one computer. That means you should have a good firewall on the computer itself. This will fix any problem you might have with ports. I would also suggest you only do this on a temporary basis. The other alternative is port forwarding. There is a list of some common games and one of these may do the trick for you. There is also an option to create custom profiles for various programs to forward needed ports. Often the hard part is figuring out what ports are needed since some game companies don't publish port use information. If you need port information, you can try calling the game's customer service number… [cont.]
