Activism, in a general sense, can be described as intentional action to bring about social change, political change, economic justice, or environmental wellbeing. This action is in support of, or opposition to, one side of an often controversial argument. The word "activism" is often used synonymously with protest or dissent, but activism can stem from any number of political orientations and take a wide range of forms, from writing letters to newspapers or politicians, political campaigning, economic activism (such as boycotts or preferentially patronizing preferred businesses), rallies, blogging and street marches, strikes, both work stoppages and hunger strikes, or even guerrilla tactics. In some cases, activism has nothing to do with protest or confrontation: for instance, some religious, feminist or vegetarian/vegan activists try to persuade people to change their behavior directly, rather than persuade governments to change laws. The cooperative movement seeks to build new institutions which conform to cooperative principles, and generally does not lobby or protest politically. Q. I'd like to know why you animal rights activists insist on making animals out to be the equivalents. I'm not saying all of you do this, but the more radical among you do. I firmly believe that as the dominant species we have an obligation and responsibility to protect, preserve, and respect our fellow living beings. But an entire lesser species would never equate to a single human life. So... really, which would you choose: the lives of 100 animals or that of your own child's? Asked by Questionable Mark? - Wed Jun 3 15:53:43 2009 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments A. Of course they wouldn't...most of them are searching for a way to justify their own existence, so they take up a cause and become passionate about it...animal testing is 'terrible', but I've never heard one animal rights activist complain when the doctor knew the correct medication to give them or a family member as a result of animal testing...common sense, protect species if you can, but don't be loopy about it Answered by American Gigolo - Wed Jun 3 16:00:36 2009 If you heard animal activists raided a mink ranch what would you say? Q. These activists raided a ranch and in the process animals were killed. I need to write 2 essays on this. 1 for the activists and 1 against. I need more reasons why they shouldn't have done the raid and why they shouldn't feel so strongly in protecting animals.. even though they are not necessarily being hurt. like milking a cow for instance.
