White is a color, the perception which is evoked by light that stimulates all three types of color sensitive cone cells in the human eye in nearly equal amount and with high brightness compared to the surroundings. A white visual stimulation will be void of hue and grayness. White light can be generated in many ways. The Sun is such a source, electric incandescence is another. Modern light sources are fluorescent lamps and light-emitting diodes. An object that does not alter the color of light reflected from its surface will appear white, unless it has very high specular reflection. Since white objects such as clouds, snow and flowers appear often in nature, human culture has many references to white, often related to purity and cleanness. The high contrast between white and black is often used to represent opposites. In some cultures, like Chinese, white is considered to be a color that represents death. On the other hand in many cultures white represents purity, freedom, and hygenic purity. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "White" Is white or off white leather a good choice for a sofa as far as it being easy to keep clean? Q. I have two dogs, 5 cats and a teenage daughter. I want something durable and pretty. Does white leather stain? Is it very durable? Is it easy to wipe clean? Asked by joni38 - Mon May 19 20:34:24 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would not suggest leather at all with animals as their claws are brutal on leather. You cannot help it. Leather also has pores which will absorb the oils from your pets. If you "must' have leather, then choose a very distressed hide which has imperfections. Any reputable salesperson will dissuade you from leather. The white/off white will also soil the most. Don't do it, you will be sorry. I know several single people who have had this color family and have not been happy with it. Try to choose something that the fur from your animals will blend into. Maybe a microfiber would be a better choice? Good luck. P.S. I have two dogs. Answered by unknown - Mon May 19 21:26:39 2008 How can I remove white out from a photograph? Q. I have an old black and white photo that at some point had parts of it whited out with white out. Does anyone know of a way of removing it short of getting it professionally restored? Asked by goldenguineasays - Wed Mar 7 10:37:13 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. No water!! Yes, water is used in processing the print, but also with other chemicals. I heard a conversation with a photo restorer recently and he said that water and the emulsion will turn to, essentially a type of glue. As I recall, he said to use lacquer thinner to clean photo surfaces, but I'm not positive. Don't get it soaking wet, just dampen a very soft cloth or swab and use very light pressure. Try the lacquer thinner on a photo you don't care about first. Be careful with the chipping idea, it could also peel the surface of the photo. Answered by faireminded1 - Wed Mar 7 11:07:14 2007 How to change white fabric to a cream or off-white color?
Q. I didn't realize the cotton fabric I bought would be so bright white. Is there a way dye it a cream color? Would tea staining work, or would it be uneven throughout? Does tea stain wash out? Asked by punchy333 - Tue Apr 29 10:44:13 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would try tea. Mix well, and make sure you take the tea out of the water before you put your fabric in. Use a large container and keep moving the fabric to even out the color. It will be lighter when it dries. Keep checking the color and leave it in as long as necessary to get the color you want.
