The United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) was a part of the United States Department of Justice and handled legal and illegal immigration and naturalization. It ceased to exist on March 1, 2003. Most of its functions were transferred to three new agencies within the newly created Department of Homeland Security in March 2003. The administration of immigration services, including permanent residence, naturalization, asylum, and other functions became the responsibility of the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS), which existed only for a short time before changing to its current name, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The investigative and enforcement functions (including investigations, deportation, and intelligence) were combined with U.S. Customs investigators, the Federal Protective Service, and the Federal Air Marshal Service, to create U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The border functions of the INS, which included the Border Patrol along with INS Inspectors, were combined with U.S. Customs Inspectors into the newly created U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). GNU Free Documentation License Is there a modern movement to secede from the United States? Q. I have noticed that local and state police are refuseing to enforce the federal laws against crossing the national boundaries. This has resulted in an undue strain on the Federal Immigration and Naturalization Service. Can the local and state police be sworn to support the federal government and defend the Constitution of the USA? This would stop the move to secede from the union. Corruption is not essential to the negation of law if the officers refuse to recognize their responsibility to the federal authority as a Confederacy citizen or a Republic of Texas citizen they refuse to support any of the laws from the central government. The problem with Prohibition Enforcement during that era was that there were no law enforcement officers… [cont.] Asked by azelb - Tue May 30 15:03:35 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Don't be silly, NO. Answered by CottonPatch - Fri Jun 9 08:10:35 2006 Oral Presentation on ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS? Q. Illegal immigration: illegal immigration: is critical and very important issue for the United States. It is country of highest level of Immigration Legal and Illegal, immigrants. I personally stand against illegal immigration. In March 2005 Immigration and Naturalization Service report estimates that 165,000 illegals go home each year, 50,000 are deported, and 25,000 die. But many more than that come in. in 2007 the illegal alien population is above 13 million persons. Government and academic estimates indicate that as of 2006 there were 11 to 12 million illegal aliens living in the United States. The Center for Immigration Studies estimated the illegal alien population at 10 million as of November 2004. Immigration officials estimate… [cont.] Asked by BiH - Wed Dec 5 11:25:17 2007 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments A. Good work! What do we do next? Many want a fence built but I disagree that it would be expensive and wouldn't work anyway. Criminals have all the time in the world to figure out how to get over, under or through a barrier. Another answerer pointed out that the illegals are enticed by businesses to come because they can get work by working cheaply and without benefits or safety considerations. What we need to do is pass a law putting the head of a company in prison for a long time for each illegal they hire. No exceptions, no early release, no excuses that 'I didn't know they worked here'. They knew. Expand the law to include school board presidents, hospital administrators, bank presidents, landlords, credit companies, and anyone… [cont.] Answered by Sherilynne B - Wed Dec 5 12:01:06 2007 Do illegals have U.S. citizen rights? Apparently they don't, the full article indicates otherwise.?
Q. There are sharp differences among legal experts and law enforcement officials about the limited protections in the immigration laws, many of which have been upheld over the years by the Supreme Court. Officials point out that the majority of the people deported last year entered the country illegally or plainly had lost any claim to legal status, including thousands of convicts. Immigration law enforcement is all about getting you to where you belong, which is outside the United States, said Jan C. Ting, a law professor at Temple University who is a former assistant commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the precursor to ICE. He pointed out that immigration laws are civil codes, not criminal. A lot of… [cont.] Asked by T - Thu Oct 18 23:03:56 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. No, and why should they, I mean that is what being an American Citizen is about, the rights we are guaranteed in our Constitution. I think what ICE is doing is good. They go in and round up illegal immigrants or legal immigrants that break the laws of this nation and say, your not welcomed here anymore. That's the way it should be. If we allowed all these bad ones to stay them the immigration population as a whole would be looked down upon. I do not want to see that happen. There are far to many hard working, honest and good immigrants who come to this nation. Why would we allow the bad ones to hurt or damage the reputations of all the good ones? Many of them will apply for citizenship and it will be allowed. I do not want gang members… [cont.] Answered by Prof. Dave - Thu Oct 18 23:37:27 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "United States Immigration and Naturalization Service"
