The United States Senate is the upper house of the bicameral United States Congress, the lower house being the House of Representatives. The composition and powers of the Senate and the House are established in Article One of the U.S. Constitution (which does not use the terms "upper" and "lower"). Each U.S state is represented by two senators, regardless of population. This ensures equal representation of each state in the Senate. Senators serve staggered six-year terms. The chamber of the United States Senate is located in the north wing of the Capitol, in Washington, D.C., the national capital. The House of Representatives convenes in the south wing of the same building. The Senate has several exclusive powers not granted to the House, including consenting to treaties as a precondition to their ratification and consenting or confirmation of appointments of Cabinet secretaries, federal judges, other federal executive officials, military officers and other federal uniformed officers, as well as the impeachment trials of federal officials. The Senate is a more deliberative body than the House of Representatives because the Senate is smaller and its members serve longer terms, allowing for a more collegial and less partisan atmosphere that is somewhat more insulated from public opinion than the House. The Senate is considered a more prestigious body than the House of Representatives because of its longer terms, smaller membership, and larger constituencies. From Wikipedia under the

In other words shoud congress be unicameral, with the House of Representatives alone exercising all legislative power. if it should why do u think so? and if not, why? this is based on your opinion Asked by Skater08 - Wed Sep 23 17:17:40 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I think not. Certain Senators need to be abolished, but our bicameral system has just as much merit as it always did. In fact, I'll go beyond just saying not to abolish it, I'd favor repealing the Amendment that changed how they are selected. Originally, Senators were chosen by their own State legislatures, rather than by popular vote. I think there are several reasons why this was a mistake. One, when they were chosen by the legislatures, they acted as a brake on the tendency to centralize power and leave States holding the bag to pay for it all. Two, the original idea was to make their selection more deliberate, and not as subject to Popular emotions of the moment. No, don't abolish the Senate. Repeal the 17th Amendment.
