Chest pain?
Q. I have been getting pain in the left side under and on the side of my breast. I have also been getting a burning feeling in my back andsometimes it shoots down to my arm. It doesn't last, though. It's usualy just a quick burning sensation. However, the pain is getting to me since my mother just had a heart attack and has CAD at 46. I know none of you can diagnose or tell me what is wrong. But if anyone knows the symptoms of a heart attack, does my chest pain sound at all like a heart related pain?

A. Women typically have different symptoms of heart disease/attacks than men. Most of the typical symptoms that are advertised were from studies performed on men. We are made differently and present with some different symptoms than men for certain disorders. The symptoms you are describing are significant for women in my experience. You should present to an ER if you have these right now (don't drive - EMS preferably), if you are talking about intermittent symptoms - you should go to your family doctor for an evaluation and cardiac workup. Your family history is significant so error on the side of caution. Take care.

What could cause chest pain while breathing in after eating?
Q. I ate a very large meal about 45 minutes ago, and am just now experiencing some chest pain that occurs when I breathe in. Other than this chest pain, I don't have any other apparent problems. I feel a little indigestion, but that's it. The pain is sharp and localized in the center of my chest and occurs only when I inhale a certain amount of air. I checked my pulse and that was a little bit fast also, but that might have just been panic because of the weird pain I was feeling. What could cause this? I must state that the large meal I ate wasn't as healthy as usual, so it could be acid reflux, but I'm not sure if breathing has anything to do with that. Also, the pain has stopped completely now. The episode lasted for around 10-15 minutes I… [cont.]

A. I did the same thing when I had a tooth extraction and hadn't eaten anything solid for days - I had chest pains so bad I thought I was having a heart attack - turn out to be indigestion - with a full stomach pressing on the diaphragm - never did that again - I would start eating healthier food and smaller portion to avoid this happening again - but if this happens again it could be a hiatal hernia and would seek medical advice

A. If the pain comes after eating, I'd say it's more likely a gallbladder issue and not a liver issue. This is definitely something to speak to your PCP about or a gastroenterologist if you have one already. A HIDA scan w/ CCK was the ONLY test that showed the disease and they ran several on me (including a gallbladder ultrasound w/ cck) Good luck! *** Gallstones - Symptoms The most common symptom of gallstones is pain in the stomach area or in the upper right part of the belly, under the ribs. The pain may: * Develop suddenly in the center of the upper belly (epigastric area) and spread to the right upper back or shoulder blade area. A. When chest pain strikes it can be an alarming situation. Most people go straight to thinking they are having a heart attack, and sometimes they are right. But chest pain does not always involve the heart. In fact sometimes it can related to your lungs, stomach, stress, or simply your muscles and bones. Chest pain is nearly always amplified by the anxiety that people feel when they first take note of it. The way to help yourself and others around you is after you dial 9-1-1 to try and remain calm, take a few deep breaths and relax. I will endeavor to give you the knowledge you need to help you feel better and seek further help when it is needed. Many people with chest pain fear a heart attack. A. A lot of people are saying that it could be a heart problem which while true, in my opinion is less likely than it being a G.I. disturbance, for example, acid-reflux or gas. The reason I say this is because based on your description, it sounds like you had no other symptoms besides brief pain. Often, heart problems present with more than just chest pain. Other symptoms that could signal a heart problem include weakness, shortness of breath, pain that radiates to your jaw or shoulder, fainting, nausea, fast heart beat, confusion--too many to mention. How can I treat chest pain caused by depression?
Q. I'm going through a really hard time in a relationship and I'm becoming depressed. I'm aware that chest pain can be caused by depression or anxiety and I'm 100% sure this is the cause of the tightness and heaviness in my chest. Do you know of any way to alleviate it (preferably without having to spend much/any money)? Since this is a psychosomatic symptom, can relief only be achieved on a psychological level?

A. I get chest pains due to anxiety. First I was thoroughly checked out by my doctor and she determined it's anxiety, not my heart. Then I got a prescription for Ativan 2 mg which I take at the onset of chest pain - not every day because it's addictive. That works for me. Good luck!

What could cause a chest pain on the right side?
Q. I woke up yesterday with a dull chest pain on the right side under my breast, it is about 1cm above the breast bone. I thought maybe i slept badly but the pain came back later several times, lasted for a few seconds each time. And again today it has been on and off. It doesn't really hurt, it is just a dull pain but it worries me. What could cause this type of pain? Could it be a cyst in my breast? Liver problem? Lung problem? I am 39, don't smoke, and not overweight. Thanks!

A. I am a nursing student. I recently studied the causes of pain in the thoracic region (chest). If the pain is on the right side it is not your heart and could most likely be gallstones because that is where your gall bladder is located. You should probably get it checked out just to see.

A. Sorry to hear that, I hate that feeling in the chest especially not knowing. Anxiety is indeed one of the most common occurences these days, many people contribute their chest pains to a heart attack and they go to the hospital, they then find out it was an anxiety attack. I took a friend once and that's when I started to learn more. The problem is they send you on your way and that doesn't help people manage or control it. Have a look here, this program has been getting good results, best of luck. :)

Asked by Soldemi - Wed May 5 00:22:00 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The pain could be numerous things - muscle pain, respiratory associated pain, pleuritic pain, heart pain, nerve problems etc etc etc. There's really no way anybody can tell you what you have over the internet, a doctor needs to see you and do a proper examination and history. If anybody diagnoses you from a paragraph history then they are wrong, particularly with no extra information about the pain (Site, Onset, Character, Radiation, Associated Symptoms, Timing, Exascerbating and Alleviating Symptoms and that's just the basic stuff). Go see a doctor - the internet is not a substitute.

What could be the cause of my chest pain when inhaling?
Q. It's only been happening the past few days, which have been really stressful since I got my widsom teeth out. I have a history of anxiety, so I think it could be related to that. Asked by Dylan L - Fri Jul 23 18:16:27 2010 - - 0 Answers - 0 Comments

A. it could be your anxiety but it could also be signs of a heart problem. sonetimes when you have teeth problems they can infect your heart. You could also have sucked some blood down into your lungs and ended up with aspiration pneumonia. I would definitely call the doctor and make an appointment.

A. I have never heard of having that problem with dying hair, or of that being an allergic reaction. Take a GasX and see if that helps. You might have heartburn, which feels kind of weird at first. If that doesn't work, you'll want to call a doctor in the morning. G'Luck!

How long will it take for chest pain to go away after having bronchitis if you're asthmatic?
Q. Over a week ago I came down with bronchitis. Went to the doctor and got an antibiotic and cough medicine. Cough diminished 3 days ago and I rarely cough now, but I constantly have chest pain - feels like I'm carrying weights on my chest. I'm also asthmatic and have been keeping up with my daily med's (Advair, Singulair, Spiriva and Albuterol). Went back to the doctor yesterday because I feel worse: aches, trouble breathing and massive chest pain. She said she still heard wheezing and she gave me Methylprednisolone. Has anyone ever experienced this before with bronchitis? How long will it take until the chest pain goes away?
Asked by Crystal - Thu Oct 4 16:08:34 2007 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Have been there many times. I can take up to 8 weeks if the bronchitis was bad. Sounds like it is. Everyone is different. You are doing the right thing by keeping your doctor informed. Remember to drink plenty of water with the Methylprednisolone. :) Will help greatly. Good luck, hope you feel better soon. REST!!
