What Remington 700 will give me more range and still knock down a deer?
Q. Im going to buy a Remington 700 SPS but I dont know if I should get it chambered in .308win or .223. Need some advice.
Asked by grizzlytrey - Sun Aug 9 21:31:15 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Unless you are a pinpoint , exactly on the point every time, get the 308 . It has good range and knockdown power and an assortment of ammo. The 223 has very little knockdown power but is very accurate because of the very low recoil . If you are hunting deer , stay with the 308

How much is a turn of the century Remington Arms double barrel shotgun in good shape worth?
Q. Also, how does one get surface rust off the barrel? Would 00 steel wool do it? Both barrels have cocking levers and a lever that you push to the right. The shells pop up when you open it up after firing. I believe it is a 10 gauge. The butt plate has an ornate R over A on it for Remington Arms. It there a website for dating these shotguns?

A. Whatever you do, don't try to fire that thing! Some older guns were made with damascus steel barrels. Firing modern smokless ammunition through the gun could result in disaster.

What should I look for when buying a used Remington 700 from a pawn shop?
Q. A pawn shop near my house is selling a used Remington 700 30-06. I am fairly new to guns and would like to own a 30-06. The owner is asking for $350 for the used Remington. It is blue with a wood stock. The stock is a little worn, but no cracks. What else should I pay close attention to? Thank you.

A. $350 sounds kinda high for a used one. What sub-model of the 700 is it? Does it come with a good scope already on it? You really cant go wrong with a Remington 700 if its in good condition. I own 2. One in .270 and one in 30-06. Both are ADL with synthetic stocks. I bought the .270 2 years ago and the 30-06 this year. Both were under $330 each. Best bang for the buck and very accurate. Do some checking around before you commit to this used one. You can even go to gunbroker dot com and find a new one and have it shipped to a gun dealer near you. (btw-gunbroker is kinda high)There are real deals out there, you just have to look. Some Walmarts still sell them too, even though i HATE walmart. If you really want the pawn shop one, before you… [cont.]

Is Remington a good hair straightener brand?
Q. I've been wanting to buy a hair straightener, and a cheap but good quality one. I was wondering if Remington's hair straightener is a good? Does it make your hair frizz?

A. my hair is relatively low maintenance and i own the remington t-studio ceramic straightener. i like it because it has a digital temperature screen and can go up to 400 degrees and it doesnt take long to heat up. however, i have hhad mine for a year or 2 and it is starting to take longer to heat up and i may be due for a new one soon because straightening takes longer overall. but for a cheap buy, its worth spending 30 bucks to replace it with the same one

Does remington managed recoil ammo really work?
Q. I just boughta remington 7400 .270 rifle semi- auto. Im little scared to shoot it because im so weak and it has alot of recoil. I saw the remington managed recoil ammo and thought that it would be perfect for me. They say that it makes you feel like your shooting a .243. Is this true?
Asked by Redneck Hick Kid from Minnesota! - Mon Aug 3 18:04:28 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. * The 243 Winchester has very mild & moderate recoil. Forget about using the managed recoil ammo, and use the Regular Factory Ammo.* The Recoil Energy of the 243 is 8.8 out of a maximum total score of 100.* Compare that to the 30-06 Recoil which is 17.6 out of a Maximum total score of 100.* You can see the 243 is not severe.* The 30-06 has twice the Recoil Energy of a 243 Winchester.* Its nothing.* The 270 caliber has a Recoil Energy of 17.0 out of a Maximum total score of 100.*. Just put a Limbsaver Recoil Pad on the 270 if you find it uncomfortable to shoot.* The Recoil Pad reduces the Recoil by 50% now its like shooting a 243 Winchester rather than a 270 caliber.*

What is the best Remington hair straightener?
Q. My friend has the S-1006 Protect and shine.. one and she loves it. I have used it before and it seemed to work pretty well on my hair. Both my friend and I have very thick hair, and mine is curly too. I usually use a Hot Tools and they've always lasted long and worked well but for some reason now both of my irons from Hot Tools are dying. I want to switch to Remington because it's a low price hair tool that seems to work good. If anyone knows a different brand that would be better to use or a different Remington straightener that would be better for my hair type, please let me know! Thanks.

How do i adjust the trigger on a Remington Summit air rifle?
Q. i have a remington summit air gun but i want to know how to adjust the trigger to make an easier trigger pull. any answer will be appriciated. the first person to give a good straight forward answer will be given the best answer. thanks to anyone who answers.
Asked by Justin B - Wed Aug 12 10:30:20 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The manual says... 3. Adjusting the Trigger This airgun is supplied with a trigger with an adjusting screw for adjustment of the sec-ond stage length NOTE: This feature is added for advanced shooters. Most shooters can use the settingsprovided during manufacturing of the gun, and should not need to make any modifica-tions. Be sure the air rifle is "ON SAFE", unloaded and not cocked. To reduce the second stage length, rotate the screw clockwise. To increase the second stage length, rotate the screw counterclockwise It can't be adjusted for pull weight apparently.

What kind of ammo to use in a Remington 870 Express Magnum Shotgun?
Q. I got a remington 870 express magnum shotgun with the shorter barrel on it for deer hunting. How do I determine if it is rifled or not? Are they usually rifled. I opened chamber and looked down barrel and it looks pretty smooth but I am not sure. Tell me if I am correct. If gun is rifled then you want sabot slugs. If gun is smooth bore than you want rifled slugs. thanks for helping me out folks.
Asked by xingfiter - Thu Nov 13 17:47:36 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If the inside of the barrel appears to be smooth, then you probably have a smooth bore barrel. Do a websearch on the different types of slugs and it should tell you if they are rifles slugs or not. You WILL want to shoot rifled slugs out of your gun...since it does not have rifling. The rifled slugs are made of lead and have a twist pattern to the outside edges of the slug itself...so, as it travels down the smooth inside of the barrel, the slug imparts a spin on itself. I suggest scoping-out the Remington, Winchester and Federal ammunition websites for more information.

I would think your best bet would be to check with either an antiques dealer or an auctioneer service---someone you can take it to and talk with face to face. even though I enjoy using the internet for finding out information and sharing ideas, there are times when real time, real life, face to face meeting is much better.

I am getting a Remington rifle but have been told that size is a big deal in which caliber you choose?
Q. I am 13,5'6,170 pounds and bench 215. I am getting a Remington Model 700 XCR but want to know which caliber you would recommend for deer, elk, and other such hunting?
Asked by Corbin M - Wed Jul 9 22:28:53 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There are many factors to consider, but it basically boils down to a caliber you feel comfortable with, but still has enough "knock down power" for the animal you're hunting. For example, I live in Oregon and to hunt elk it's required to use larger than .24 cal. So you could technically hunt elk with a .243, but personally I don't feel it is powerful enough. The 30.06 is fairly versitile as you can use lower grain cartridges for smaller game and higher grain for larger game. I recommend going to a firing range and renting a few rifles in different calibers. My personal recommendation for deer and elk would be .270, 30.06, .308, and 7mm Remington Mag. You shouldn't need anything larger than .30 cal unless you plan on hunting game larger… [cont.]

What model Remington 870 is best for home defense?
Q. I'm looking to bolster my shotgun defense options, and want to pick up a 12ga pump action Remington 870. Not sure what the differences in Express(R), HD, Tactical are. I've looked at one 18" barrel, synthetic, 5+1 for about $700. Seems high to me. Only purpose for this gun will be HD, I'd like an 18" barrel, black, pump, extended magazine, standard stock (speed load+). Any reccomendations?
Asked by Juice - Fri Apr 24 01:34:16 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. $700 sounds way high. Should be closer to $400. You dont really need a tactical or speed load shotgun for HD and those will only cost you more money in most cases. Your standard pump action with stock and 18 or 20 inch barrel will do fine. Mossberg 500 is a popular choice for HD. It is available with 18" or 20" and is capable of holding 8 shells, it's black, and has a standard stock. If you have a Big5 near you, you can pick one up for around $350 + fees or wait till they run an add at $279. The 870 is a good shotgun too and many prefer it over the mossy. It's kinda like a coke and pepsi thing. At any rate you should not have to pay $700 for one. Good luck and good for you for wanting to protect yourself and your family.

A. I don't know about adjusting them, I leave that to the gunsmith, but as far as quality goes, they are terrible compared to the new x-marks. They are perfectly usable, but once you are used to the new ones, they seem worse than they really are.

A. I don't know about adjusting them, I leave that to the gunsmith, but as far as quality goes, they are terrible compared to the new x-marks. They are perfectly usable, but once you are used to the new ones, they seem worse than they really are.

When will Remington be releasing their next line of new model center-fire firearms?
Q. I want to buy a new 22.250 for varmint hunting, but i'm not happy with the varmint rifles currently available from remington because that's who I would like to buy from. And are Remington going to put their X-Mark pro trigger on the other rifles soon like the varmint models etc?

A. I thought they were putting X-mark triggers in Model 7s. I also thought they were trickling down towards the other specialty models too. I haven't been shooting Remington stuff lately, but what I've handled in shops hasn't impressed me like it use to. I grew up having a 30-06 725 BDL Custom in dad's gun case. I have been shooting Browning A-bolts lately, but might be brought back to Big Green if they made things I liked just a little better. I'm actually leaning towards a Tikka for now.

Do you have a pair of Remington straighteners? If so, are they any good?
Q. I have really thick, frizzy hair and I was wondering whether to get a Remington pair because they are so much cheaper that GHDs and everyone says how good they are. What are your experiences with them? And there are lots of different kinds, so what are you straighteners called? Thanks.

Can a Remington 870 Bolt be duracoated or gunkoted?
Q. I have a police surplus remington 870 wingmaster that is going to be duracoated flat or matte black, the bolt is a polished finish bolt and I would rather it be black. I am pretty sure that that is ok to do, but I just want to make sure I will not put something out of tolerance by doing so.

A. any gun can be. On youtube i saw a remington duracoated all black thet cam out real well. Also on youtube type in nutnfancy and duracoating. Nutnfancy is a good go to reference for guns and knife and he has vids of him duracoating. If you do the bolt do it in a gloss finish and not a matt.
