What exactly causes ulcers and what conditions irritate them?
Q. I mean ulcers a general thing. But if that's not possible to answer, maybe specific ones with their causes and what conditions irritate them and so forth.
Asked by blue - Wed Nov 12 20:55:05 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Stomach ulcers are cause by a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori. These are a normal member of your stomach bacteria, but when they get overpopulated they can begin to wear through the natural mucus lining in your stomach which then causes your stomach acid to erode into your stomach lining which begins to cause pain. Skin ulcers are generally caused by a lack of blood supply to the skin such as in advanced diabetes. When pressure is applied such as in bedridden individuals this can accelerate the process. Bedsores are another name for these skin ulcers.

How can i get rid of my consistent mouth ulcers on the insides of my lips?
Q. I have HUGE mouth ulcers & they last for a few months at a time. I cannot talk aloud very well without extreme pain!!! I wanted a quick cure for the ulcers & any tips that may help. Please answer as quckly as possible, because I cannot withstand the pain!!!:(

A. The usual reason for reoccuring mouth ulcers like yours is anaemia. A treatment with iron tablets, available from the Chemist, will help heal the ones you have now and prevent new ones. BUT it's a good idea to have a blood test done first to see what else you are defeciant in and how low your iron levels are. For now, use a numbing agent such as babie's Bongela (teething gel) and rinse with warm, salty water.

How do you prevent getting mouth ulcers?
Q. I suffer from ulcers terribly every few months. I'm fit, heathly eat a well balanced diet, but every so often I get them and about 4 or 5 at a time in my mouth. I think it may be due to stress or lack of sleep as we have a new born, but i may be wrong. Is there any way I can prevent these. I obviously use bonjela when I get them.

A. Treat any you have with very hot & very salty mouth washes. Hurts like hell but will clear them up quickly. I'd suggest looking at changing to a toothpaste that doesn't contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (foaming agent) as this has been found to be the guilty constituent behind many cases of mouth ulcers. There is a make called Hollytrees that doesn't contain SLS & you can get this in your health food shop. I'm sure this will sort your recurrent problem out.

What is the difference between Typhoid and Ulcers and their root causes?
Q. Some health experts say that when typhoid becomes cronic in the body, some blisters develop and turn to ulcers. Is there a truth in this logistic. Please tell me.

A. Typhoid fever is caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi. It has a 10-30% fatality rate, but is easily treatable with widely available antibiotics. Symptoms are typical of most bacterial infections, and include high fever, chills, diarrhea, myalgia, rash etc. Extreme symptoms include intestinal perforation and hemorrhage. When promptly treated, morbidity drops to 1%. Ulcers - and I am assumming that you are referring to stomach ulcers - are usually caused by one of two primary agents: a viral infection, or cancer. Helicobacter pylorn, a virus, causes between 70% and 90% of all intestinal/stomach ulcers (the ulcers are essentially the same, and though stomach ulcers are more widely recognized by the public, intestinal ulcers are more… [cont.]

What is the best way to prevent mouth ulcers/canker sores?
Q. I get ulcers aka canker sores in my mouth all the time. I get one, it goes away, then the next day another comes up. My doctor gave me apthasol with makes them go away, but do any of you know of a medicine that will prevent them? Or atleast do better than apthasol?
Asked by itsalex - Thu Jan 10 20:32:14 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You usually cannot prevent them. They are brought on by a virus in your body. Sometimes you can get them when you have been or will be sick, as your immune system is not in full force. Other than that, keep your fingers out of your mouth and rinse with warm salt water 2-3x a day.

A. Don't cheat on the bland diet for now ...but I would see another doctor if you can. I have seen a number of people cured of ulcers by using a combo of anti-biotics for a relatively short period of time. At least check it out.

A. depends on what the ulcer are caused by but, for pain you can make a mouth wash out of liquid benadryl and Maalox swish the mixture around in your mouth and spit it out. It will help with the ulcers and numb your mouth so that you can eat and such.

How to get rid of mouth ulcers forever?
Q. Is there a way to heal mouth ulcers. My mother in law has 5 at the moment and no medicine helps. She's been using heomopathic and chemical medicine for a long time but the ulcers never go. A. Hi Kristen The healing of these ulcers depend on the type and severity of infection ,it could be from bacterial, viruses or fungal infection In general it may take 10-17 days to heal completely with the use of some corticosteriods and antibiotics but if its apthous there is no need for treatment it will heal spontaneously (the treatment depends on diagnosis)but when your doctor said it will heal soon, so its an easy case. you must avoid hot drinks and waters at this time and rinse your mouth with fluride

What do diabetic ulcers on the feet look like?
Q. I have a mild case of diabetes. I have been getting sores on my feet from itching and they have a hard time healing. I showed my doc's nurse and she said it didn't look like diabetic ulcers and to try a hydrocortizone on them. If it doesn't get better to call them back. Should I be concerned. They burn and itch and keep me up at night. Thanks for any input.

A. Be ware of those ulcers--even if they don't look like diabetic ulcers, they still could be diabetic ulcers. My father-in-law had ulcers on his leg that they said weren't related to his diabetes, but the cream they had him put on it weekend the blood vessels and they burst while he was at work. I would try to take some Benadryl, which can sometimes help with itching. I would definitaly keep calling them though.

Ulcers from dipping in the front left of my mouth?
Q. I have like five ulcers on the corner of my lower lower lip from pouches. I've dipped twice and then a few days later i have these aching ulcers that kill. Anything that i can do for them? Is it from the tobacco?
Asked by help - Thu Aug 13 01:46:45 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You need to see an oral surgeon immediately. Ulcers that are a result of tobacco can be disfiguring if not treated early on and could potentially be deadly. This is your body sending you a message to treat it better. Get to a doctor and then start the process of giving up your habit. You will be glad you did. All the best for your good health.

What is the best way to take away ulcers in your mouth?
Q. I have got so manu ulcers in my mouth.. and I do not know what to do about them. I tried putting salt in the past (OWWW!) and it works, but I'm not sure if its healthy. I put Bonjela, but it doesn't seem to be that effective, its only to take away the pain but then after a while its not effective later. I used tawas solution (ever heard of it?) but after you use it once or twice it doesn't work anymore. Please help! Whatever your views are welcome.

Why can the backlash of bile salts into the stomach can lead to stomach ulcers?

A. It can lead to the stomach being hypoacidic - meaning that the lining changes both structurally and thus functionally. I have the same problem, and I've never been told that it leads to ulcers - but a biopsy has demonstrated that the lining of my stomach has changed. It does (for me) affect the entire digestive tract. Good luck
