A. The blue rays that come out of your tv and laser your eyes when you are not looking. That's way I try to avoid those blue ray movies. Pretty sneaky, you know... (i'm kidding by the way)

A. If you have DVI or HDMI output - you can watch BD movies in full resolution. If not - it will be about the same as regular DVDs. If you have DVI/HDMI outputs - just get the right cable - DVI to HDMI or HDMI to HDMI. You will also need to connect audio - which is either analog or optical digital.

Do I need an HD TV for Blue ray movies?
Q. I'm getting a PS3 tomorrow and I would like to know if I "need" an HD tv in order to see a difference in quality while watching a Blue Ray movie. Not if it would be best, but would I actually notice a difference.
Asked by Brandon - Thu Dec 24 00:59:00 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Short answer: Yes. The reason is that Blu-Ray movies have up to 6x the picture quality and a standard television only supports around 600 lines of resolution. You can view Blu-Ray on a standard TV, but if you want to get the full quality of the format you'll want an HDTV that supports 1080P or, at the very least, 720P.

Q. can i watch a 1080p blue ray movie [like spiderman 3 on blue ray] and have a 720p HDTV, will i get all the resoulution from it? or will it not be the same. Do i need to have both of them on 1080p? please help!!!

A. You can definitely watch the movie but it will only display at a maximum resolution of 720P. To get the full 1080P you must have a full high definition television.

If I have a laptop with a blue-ray drive can I watch blue rays through my HIgh Def TV in 1080P?
Q. I have a lap top that has a blue ray drive. Can I connect that to my TV and watch blue ray movies in 1080P. My TV supports 1080P but I don't have the laptop yet so I'm not sure if my laptop has a HDMI out plug.

A. Your laptop will need to support HDMI-out. I don't think the VGA output will do 1080p. Some TVs will also do 1080p over component, so if your laptop supports component video that will work for the time being. (however, when studios start enforcing HDCP, you will HAVE to use HDMI to get anything greater than 480p from your laptop while playing a blu-ray movie.

A. It's an HD (1080p) alternative to DVD. Disks look like DVDs but won't play on a DVD player (although DVDs will play on a Blu-ray player). They also feature improved sound over DVD ... but you need a top end audio system to benefit. You don't NEED an HDTV to play a Blu-ray disk, but unless you do you won't get any appreciable visual benefit (There may be slight visible colour differences, but not in resolution). Cost is currently quite high. Players are $300 or more and disks typically cost $10 more than the same movie on DVD. This will come down, but Blu-ray is never going to be as inexpensive as DVD. Many consumers love Blu-ray, but others (myself included) consider it overpriced for the relatively small benefit over DVD. At the… [cont.]

A. Whatever you like the best but the action movies with a lot of special effects and stuff like concerts or sports are the best types of movies to watch. So think of some action movie you like and get it in Blu-Ray. Casino Royale is pretty cool.

A. No All Blu-ray movies, irrespective of year are recorded onto disc in 1080p format, which is the best possible definition ratio available. To get the full benefit you need to view Blu-ray movies on a tv with at least 720p (HD ready) or 1920 x 1080p (Full HD).
